Generally, the vaccine is considered safe for adults and children above 12 months. However, individuals who are immunocompromised should seek specialist advice before vaccination.
Chickenpox is a highly contagious viral infection which causes an itchy vesicular rash and fever. While it is usually mild in children, it can be severe or life-threatening in adults, babies, and immunocompromised individuals. Vaccination helps reduce the risk of contracting and spreading the disease, preventing potential complications.
Common side effects may include fever, redness and pain at the injection site, upper respiratory infection, headache, and loss of appetite. These are usually mild and temporary.
A booster dose in adulthood may be recommended as lifelong immunity has yet to be proven. Consult with your healthcare provider for specific recommendations.
After vaccination, avoiding close contact with high-risk individuals for up to 6 weeks is advised. Additionally, refrain from receiving immunoglobulin or aspirin products unless a doctor advises. Notify your healthcare provider if you experience severe symptoms or reactions.
Wells also provides vaccinations for children, following appropriate guidelines and recommendations.
